partay

I think last night was the most people we had over. Thanks to everyone that came over to hang out.

We watched hell girl for a while, played soul calibur 3, than had a nitro cart tourney.

It was fun seeing the trash talk between Matt and Jon while they went head to head. Bob almost beat me, much respect to him, though Jon did surprise me a bit on that last lap, I thought I had him beat easy.

Though, I'm kinda bummed out that Nova didn't come, she had other plans... sigh.

I think I'm crazy

What's with all these emotional highs and lows lately? I'm not use to these feelings.

You close your doors and let it burn

We're going no where, and it's happening fast, a dim future and a darker past.

I love it when people come to visit

We had a Christmas eve service last night at Ethnos and it was cool. There were a whole lot of faces that I hadn't seen before. The place was packed. When I was setting up chairs there was a request for more and I was surprised that most every chair was filled that we put in there.

Justin talked, Paul + Meridith + Rachael sung, and I just hung out. I showed up early to hang out, helped out a bit and helped tear down too. I mostly just wanted to be around other humans, my roomie is gone so no one to go home to.

Saturday Jon and Matt said they'd come over on Sunday and hang out so I was looking forward to that. Jen brought Africans and wanted to goto new seasons because she had coupons. We went there and it turned out to be closed. Everyone but Jen and Ben were there and then we talked about going to myplace as an alternative, I had just done some grocery shopping and knew I could make enough spaghetti for everyone.

It was the most people I had over at a time in a while so that was exciting for me, Jen + Ben + Africans took off early while us three remaining guys got wild because the girls had gone.

Up in the air

Well, it is christmas eve again. And unlike the past two years I don't have to work and the other shift doesn't need overtime. So, I'm kinda unsure about how to proceed. My home boy jon (and his bros?) is going to come over this after noon after I get a nap and maybe a couple of guys from work, I invited them and they said they'd bring that beer that comes in the green bottles that hawaians are always drinking what's it called? Something that starts with an H?

Service Project: Parry Center

Well Stephanie planned out this service project where we would make gingerbread houses with kids at the Parry center. I'm not exactly sure what all it is about but they are some of the harder kids in the system ones that didn't make it in typical foster or group homes.

I wasn't going to go because I was worried about there being more of us than there were of them and it being all weird like that. There wasn't any craziness or what not they just seemed like people, maybe with weird personality traits but I don't know. The main lady that worked there said that they can be violent but none of them were, I was really filled with anxiety but only at first. I was talking to Jen on IM and she really laid it on thick that I should be there. Nick had invited me to go hang out with him so I was going to use him as an excuse but somehow we ended up both going.

Nick told me some horror stories, like how that place was scary and how he saw them striking outside once (he lives on the east side so it isn't too far for him) Said that after the strike they just fired everyone and hired new people. Um, wow and stuff.

The other thing that surprised me is that the people who worked there were most all girls, I think I saw one guy and most all of the girls looked really young. A most of they were really cute to, it was a pleasant surprise.

Conclusion: I am glad we went and I hope we go again.

Buzz word Getrifacation

Getrifacation

You can see this in action in the perl district most recently. Side effect include:
1.)Starbucks on every street corner
2.)Outflux of mom-pop stores
3.)Outflux of poor residents
4.)Influx of rich residents
5.)loss of historical neiborhood

A urban planning prof. told me that something similar happened when PSU was built. Waay back when that used to be a very tight knit community of largely jewish people. Now it is full of high rises, oh and they didn't like tanner creek so they put it in a pipe so sw portland wouldn't have to look at it anymore.

overmotived food shopping

I had some spare time before going back into the fab so I went to winco and desided to do something that I _never_ do and took a cart, I got $70 someodd of groceries and had to be creative getting everything into the freezer / fridge. There are a bunch of frozen (glass!!!) jars of chicken broth which I'm glad haven't turned into piles of broken sharpness. But I had to do some re-aranging, needless to say, no buying stuff that needs won't keep at room temp for a while.

But I got a ham, I can cook it for Christmas!

PS. Stalking Jane is playing again on sunday and I do want to see them, the question is how motivated I'll be after hanging out after church and who would go with and stuffs. Or if something better to do would pop up. It'd be really nice to go with Nova but I havn't asked her yet, I know she gets off work at 5:30 pooh oh well.

PPS. I really do like them though I got their doug fir cd last week and have been listening to stalking jane in car tonight.

exploding plumbing

Here I was on a nice December day, getting ready to do the dishes when lo and behold: The water wouldn't drain. So I figured that the disposal needed to be run. I ran it, and instead of draining it, it just moved all the gunk into the other sink.

Frustrated I inspected the lower track of the plumbing system. It was dripping. I didn't like this, so I touched it, and it started spraying out black ichor of doom all over. I put a bowl under it after a bit but it was already on the floor and ran outside to get the oil pan. Three gross towels later, I took apart the little loopdy and there was a piece that looked to be a candle.

I thought "Man why is there a candle in the drain pipe?!" But it was somewhat soft, like butter or grease maybe yeah, so um gross. Gross gross gross, must wash hands now!

I am so blessed and don't even care

On Sunday I talked to a couple of people who had come here from Africa and realized that I have no idea what a hard life is. One girl is 23 and her little brother has aids, her mother died of aids and her father is dying of aids. When she was in the 8th grade she had to take care of 10 kids being a mom to them all.

There is a terrible famine in the country and everyday just finding food is enough to be greatful for.

It seems I whine and complain about the smallest of things but some other people have problems orders of magnitude worse than mine and can still be happy.
